A communal clash between Fulani and Gwari residents in Gurfata village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has left one person dead and many villagers homeless.

The incident which happened on Tuesday, led to the burning of at least 31 houses in the village.

It was reportedly caused by a misunderstanding between a Fulani man, Shaibu Adamu, and a Gwari farmer, Sa’adu, over access through a farmland path.

Security analyst, Makama shared details of the incident in a post on X on Wednesday.

According to him, the clash began when Adamu tried to pass through Sa’adu’s farmland. The farmer refused, asking him to use another route. This led to an argument and a physical fight between the two men.

“Things quickly got worse when Shaibu’s elder brother, Adamu Ibrahim, allegedly attacked a Gwari resident, Dahiru Yakubu, with a machete. Yakubu was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he later died,” Makama wrote.

The news of his death triggered a reprisal attack by angry Gwari youths who stormed the Fulani settlement in the village, burning down 31 houses and injuring at least three people.

Soldiers and other security personnel were later deployed to the area to stop the violence and bring the situation under control.
