Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State has reached a peace deal with bandits operating in the Gemi Forest, with both sides pledging to end attacks and harassment.
This was contained in a post shared by Bakatsine on X Sunday night, accompanied by pictures.
According to Bakatsine, under the agreement, farmers and herders will be free to work on their land, trade, and access basic services without fear.
The local council also promised to repair schools, clinics, and dams serving Fulani communities in the area.
“Safana LGA signs truce with bandits in Gemi Forest. Both sides pledge no more attacks or harassment; farmers and herders free to work, trade and access services. The LGA promised school, clinic and dam repairs for Fulani communities,” Bakatsine wrote.
Similarly, Bakatsine reported that bandits struck a farm in Dandume Local Government Area on Sunday afternoon, abducting multiple people.
Security forces later rescued the victims, but one man identified as Abdullahi was killed during the incident.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding both incidents.
