The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State has said its recorded recorded over 800,000 members.

This was disclosed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Luckyman Egila, during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Egila described the ADC as “a beautiful bride”, noting that notable political figures, including two former governors and two senators, had officially joined and obtained their membership cards.

He further listed the new members as former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia; former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus; Senator Lee Maeba; and Senator Andrew Uchendu, who currently serves as the ADC Vice Chairman, South-South.

Egila said, “These persons have left their former parties, and they are now full members of the ADC.

“And you can only become a member of a party when you have registered with that party and issued with a membership card. So all of them are now full members of the ADC.”

Egila also named former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo, among the party’s ranks.

He expressed confidence that more influential figures from other political platforms would join in the near future.

Regarding the party’s reach, Egila stated that the ADC had existing structures across all local government areas and communities in the state even before its recent expansion.

“We have grown from where we were, and as of today, we have over 800,000 members in Rivers State, and the number is growing by the day,” he noted.

He added that the party had a history of political participation prior to the coalition, having contested the 2023 elections.

Egila dismissed any notion of internal disputes, saying, “We are one of the parties that Rivers people sorted for and voted for in 2023.

“The African Democratic Congress is united, and I assure you there is no crisis in our party.

“We are a party that has integrity and we don’t tolerate any form of disrespect or any act that will bring the party to disrepute.”
