The Ogun State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, has charged all medical personnel in the state to come up with strategies, and collectively design solutions that will position the state as true leader in National Healthcare Service Delivery.

Onasanya gave the charge at Ijebu-Ode, during a 3-day Strategic Retreat organised by the Leadership of Ogun State Hospitals Management Board for its management staff, heads of zones, heads of hospitals, apex nurses and top officers in the state’s Health Sector.

The Head of Service appreciated the present administration for not paying lip service to building a well-equipped knowledgeable and proactive workforce capable of meeting the needs of the people.

He revealed that the retreat would provide the opportunity for medical personnel to rethink strategies that would face the global challenges in the health systems.

Onasanya, speaking on the theme: ‘Strategic Leadership and Management as Panacea for Effective, Efficient and Qualitative Health Care Delivery’, disclosed that the retreat directly complements the stern commitment of the Government of Ogun State to capacity development across the Public Service.

On her part, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, appreciated the Governor for his approval and release of funds for the acquisition of Infrastructures for the health facilities, granting exit replacement and upgrading of the State’s Ambulance Services, while charging the participants to embrace the use of the 4 P’s which centered on the Perception, Process, People and Projection in the discharge of their duties.

Coker emphasised the importance of data and disclosed that it was not just for collection purposes but to make critical decisions that would help the people in every nook and cranny for better healthcare outcome across the state.

In their separate contributions, Special Advisers to the Governor on Health, Tayo Lawal and Rotimi Ogungbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kayode Oladehinde, charged the participants to rub minds and share experiences on how to effectively and efficiently deliver adequate healthcare services to the people of the State.

Speaking on the purpose of the retreat, Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, revealed that the retreat was to adequately and clearly share the vision of the State government for the Health Sector with all the Heads of Health Zones, Hospitals and Facilities across the State so that every citizen could enjoy affordable and accessible health care services.

On their parts, Chief Medical Director, State Hospital, Ijaiye, Medical Directors of Owode Egba Hospital and her counterpart from the Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital, Dr. Bunmi Osinaike, Dr. Yomibo Sofolahan and Dr. Gabriel Taiwo respectively, appreciated the Management of the Board for the opportunity to participate in the retreat, noting that it would help them to be more productive and efficient in service delivery.
