Once upon a time, the typical fresh man and secondary school girl would always chant about the excitement of going off to college, to start a somewhat independent life away from family stress, old neighborhood, and the life they grew up in. There is nothing weird about that feeling. It makes us human.
However, they go to school, and most times, it turns out to be different from what they originally thought.
College faces you with challenges, perseverance, mental health glitches and a lot of patchy things to set you for a future ahead, maybe.
As one who understands that you might need this encouragement and advices, here are ten things to take along with you for the university life;
TEN THINGS TO TAKE ALONG;
1. PAINKILLERS; One of the first things to have along with you is a pack of active painkillers. I would recommend the DICLOFENAC 200mg.
From sorting your clearances, to scavenging through to your hostels, to accepting the reality of living with new people in your hostel, to making a chart of how your day should be organized for classes and other activities; you would be left with a head aching out of your body and a body aching off your head. A bit of painkillers and some energy boosters is all you need.
2. SANITARY PAD; Did you know that stress caused your period to get disorganized ?Well, now you know! There has been incidents when fresh students walk around with a back stained with the red visitor. When asked if they don’t track their dates, the majority responds with their visitor being off the calendar’s date.
A pack or two of sanitary pads should always walk around with you. Who knows who might need them on the way ? You never can tell.
3. CALM ATTITUDE; Yes, you read that right. Your patience will be tested in a lot of unintentional situations, and, it is totally going to be a chaos to lose your cool. You can’t come this far to let things get sore.
4. CHOCOLATE AND CANDIES; It is no new update that chocolate and candies help lighten every tension. It boosts your brain to releasing energy, spiritedness, joy, and some sort of comforting relief. A bite or two into refreshing goodness can be all you need to find your peace at that moment.
Chocolates as well help in retentive memory for studying and understanding.
5. DEODORANT; You will be needing them in loads! Perfumes, perfume oil, body spray, roll-ons, and every kind! I know you smell good, but stress can activate unpleasant smells, and the surrounding environment might not be all lavender’y for you.
Wouldn’t it be just great to have your signature scent ? And wouldn’t it be more great to even give the atmosphere a part of your sweetness ? It sure would!
6. BUSINESS CARD / CONTACT CARD; When I get walked up to for a friendship, I usually hand out my contact card, and, I can notably tell you that it increases the aura and elegance the approacher saw in you! You do not need to break your bank to get business cards printed for you.
You can simply write your contact details on a fancy piece of paper just like the sticky notes used to pin informations on your fridges at home.
Now, I must advise you to have a craft or skill to enable you have ease through school. It would help you build your profile and circle, and as so many other things which we would discuss in the next highlight. School isn’t rosy, so, make use of your free time to merchandise your skill or make responsible friendships and build needed relationships.
7. GET A SKILL; Tough days come, and the reason they do not last forever is because they get sorted out. Imagine being in dire need of money with no one to take a loan from, and a random person rings your phone to buy your skill or service. It could be in form of hair dressing, make up, nails, lash extensions, fashion designing, catering and a lot of other things! Having a business further builds your confidence, profile and gives you a circle of opportunities.
You never can tell what a client can offer aside patronage. Make use of your free time and you sure would not regret it!
8. EYEDROPS; Your eyes would get sore from a lot of reading and screen time works for your study. In addition, the environment might be dusty or you just might react to something. Walking around with a bottle of eye drop is not going to cost you as much as every strand of hair on your head does.
Someone close to you just might be in need of a clearer eyes in minutes, so, why not be the heroic student in everyone’s story ?
9. HAND SANITIZERS; Everyday, we sleep with germs and wake up with germs. Everything and everyone around us has unseen germs that could cause you harm.
Now, do you know that your phone holds more germs than your legs do ? You might place your phone on a toilet’s holder, use the toilet to your comfort, wash your hands, and then grab your phone again.
A little bit of sanitizer on your hands and a brush of it over your phone would do you real good! Our hands are the easiest tools on quests to get us sore and sick and we just unintentionally let it get to that. Use your sanitizer at least every 20 minutes.
10. COMFORTABLE OUTFITS; I am sorry to break it to you, but, college have rules and strict ones at that! Aside that, you should be looking like the center of attention in a bad / slutty way. It is totally unhealthy for your profile. You should not be known as that girl who dresses provocatively!
Decency wins all the time. You might hate to agree, but, a well dressed and modest woman gets more of the good and positive clicks, friends, favors and relationships than someone who turns her everyday walk-in to be as a stripper’s runway. Get clothes for every weather, and your feet should be covered in comfortable foot wear.
[ ] TAKE GOD WITH YOU; This list would not be complete without this highlight. Take God with you. He will always be that friend to talk to and get healing from. It will make things easier for you to have God with you.
There is no reason to get all anxious now, it’s okay to feel that way, but, look forward to the fun filled days, the greatness ahead and the rewards of fighting to make your dreams a reality.
