Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted sarcastically to the incident involving former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in Benue State.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Obi arrived in Benue for a visit to Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area, where he planned to sympathize with families affected by the deadly June 2025 attack. However, his convoy was stopped by youths along the Makurdi-Gboko Road, with protesters reportedly chanting, “Obi go back.” Obi eventually returned to the airport and left the state.
Reacting to the development, VDM used sarcasm to say he was “happy” that Obi had been chased away, suggesting that the incident had shown him that Benue youths were capable of chasing people away.
He then turned the statement around, saying he was actually disappointed because if the youths could mobilize so quickly to stop Obi, he wondered why similar energy had not been mobilized against the bandits and terrorists attacking communities in the state.
VDM’s reaction has sparked discussion online, with the incident raising fresh questions about insecurity, political tension and the treatment of political figures in Nigeria.
